Presented by Bob Gallagher, Lighthouse Caretaker and Robert Chessia, Acting President of the Scituate Historical Society
In October of 2022, construction crews removed the 92-year-old lantern room from the top of historic Scituate Lighthouse in anticipation of restoration after it was determined that there was severe corrosion. Project funding was secured by the Scituate Historical Society through a grant of $200,000 from the Massachusetts Cultural Commission as well as $2M of town of Scituate Community Preservation Act funds . Scituate Lighthouse shines bright again after almost two years.
Through photos, video and firsthand accounts Lighthouse Caretaker Bob Gallagher will take us through the removal, rebuild and relighting of Scituate Light. Bob Chessia, acting President and Chair of the Scituate Historical Society Trustees will discuss how the determination to remove and rebuild was made, how funding was secured and rebuild crews selected.
