The Bates House
6 Jericho Road
The Bates House sits along a route many walk in every season. From the Harbor, to the Town Pier, up the hill and down what was once called Beach Road, past former boat yards, mossing beaches, the Yacht Club,Barker's Farm, and Damon's Museum, all the way to the spot where the Pilot Boat Columbia sat for 30 years, and then on to Cedar Point and Old Scituate Light. It is a walk loaded with the stories of hard work, bad luck, horrible storms, and perserverance.
The Town of Scituate purchased the Bates House in 2010 from Yvonne Twomey, with Community Preservation Act Funding. Mrs. Twomey sought to protect this historic site from development in perpetuity. The property will be managed by the Scituate Historical Societyin the manner that Old Scituate Light has been for more than 40 years.
