From his classic “Blue Danube” waltz to his hilarious opera “Die Fledermaus”, Johann Strauss’s music has delighted countless listeners – and dancers! – for almost 200 years. Presented by musicologist Delvyn Case and literary scholar Laura Bohn Case, this presentation will explore the life, music, and legacy of one the world’s most popular composers. It will describe the vibrant culture of mid-19th-century Austria that shaped his artistic vision, the unique elements of his compositions that make them so memorable, and the reasons why his music has had such a broad and enduring impact on successive generations.
