This little book grew out of an interest in family history and the sections of the town that were most familiar to the author.  It is a reflection of the town in the 1800’s and of the thriving Irish Mossing industry that Daniel Ward discovered and introduced to Scituate.  The 1870 census indicates that mossing was the mainstay of the Irish community.  The Irish community that evolved here brought significant and numerous changes to the town and became an integral part of all lifesaving efforts along the coast.
