The Blizzard of ’78 and Its Impact on Scituate

Join us on the 45th Anniversary of the Blizzard of ’78 to recall this momentous event and its impact on Scituate.

There have been many storms which have brought feet of snow to New England but there have been few to bring the type of coastal devastation we saw during the Blizzard of ’78. The destruction along our shoreline was unimaginable and the memories will always remain with the residents that lived through it.

Recall the dangers and the heroics of the Blizzard of 1978 with new materials from a variety of sources. Bob Gallagher (Scituate Light Keeper), David Ball (Past President of the Scituate Historical Society), and Paul Scott (retired Scituate DPW Engineer) will present information about how and why that storm was so devastating.

Many of the photos in the program have never been seen by the public.
